Stitch Fix #4 Review + Fashion Show (Help me choose!)

June 24, 2016

If you haven’t already heard of Stitch Fix, let me tell you a little bit about this incredible program. Let me first say that Stitch Fix and I did not partner on this post, I just really, really love receiving their boxes that I pay for out of pocket.

Stitch Fix is a personal styling service that pairs you with a stylist who helps expand your wardrobe without the messiness of mall parking, sorting through racks, or hours of opening up tabs online to Windows shop – get it?! – (and then never pulling the trigger if you’re anything like me).

You fill out a style profile that asks you questions about your body type, what you look for in clothing, and what you’re hoping to get (business, casual, date night, etc.). You can even write a personal note to your stylist with exact requests, let them know of upcoming events or trips you might need a new look for, or tell them what not to give you.

Recently I was featured across Stitch Fix’s social channels after sharing a photo of me wearing an off-the-shoulder shirt from my 2nd fix at a recent event for World Market. I’ve worn that shirt so much that I have to put it in retirement for at least another week or two 😉

They offer clothing, shoes, jewelry, scarves, bags, and more, so no matter what you’re looking for, they probably have it! Many of the pieces I’m wearing in photos are from Stitch Fix, so I wanted to start sharing the items as they come in – and you can help me decide what to keep!

Five items come in each fix and you choose what to keep and what to send back. The styling fee is $20, but the fee is waived if you keep at least one item, and you send the items you don’t want back in a pre-paid mailer that they provide in your shipment. So far I’ve only sent 4 items back of 25, so you can probably see why I love it!

Also, you can choose when you want to receive a fix so you aren’t tied to a monthly bill. I started with once a month and have shifted to once every 2-3 weeks because I have no self-control. So there’s that.

In my note to my stylist (Aimee, request her – she’s awesome!) I mentioned that I love kimonos, hate showing skin above my elbows because mama doesn’t love arm exercises, currently crushing on lace-up flats, and needing some fun clothes that break me out of the mom uniform but still keep me cool. I can’t even dress myself because I’m so, so picky, so I really didn’t have high expectations walking in that I’d like anything in my first couple fixes.

Each stylist sends a note along with your fix along with a style card that shows you how to pair your new items. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how Stitch Fix works because it’s just so very personalized that it feels like they hire one person for every client.

Aimee said, “Hi Sarabeth! I saw you rocking your off-the-shoulder on our Instagram – you look stunning! I know it’s heating up and as requested I chose more pieces for the season to help keep you cool. I wanted to try something a bit different and started with the Collective Concepts swing dress. The romantic, boho print and colors are so gorgeous, but I thought you would really love the draped sleeves which will keep your arms covered 🙂 Slip it on with wedges, or go for the Steven lace up flats; add a pendant necklace and you are ready for the day! I know you love kimonos and was so excited to find the Pixley this time. Pair it with a cuffed boyfriend and a white v-neck for the weekend running around with your little one; add a few layered necklaces of various lengths and wear your hair in soft, voluminous curls. Have fun and enjoy! XO, Aimee”

See what I mean?

Here are the pieces I received in my 4th Stitch Fix

Stitch Fix Collective Concepts Kit V-neck Swing Dress - TheFebruaryFox.comStitch Fix Collective Concepts Kit V-neck Swing Dress - TheFebruaryFox.comStitch Fix Collective Concepts Kit V-neck Swing Dress - TheFebruaryFox.comLike Aimee noted, this swing dress is completely out of my realm. I never wear dresses and this color does not exist in my neutral closet, but that’s the whole reason I signed up – to expand my style! I have an event coming up that requires a dress, so this may be “the one.” Also, let’s not discuss my milky white legs. Sometimes I forget I live in California.

Stitch Fix Steven Gennna Suede Lace Up Flat in Blush - TheFebruaryFox.comStitch Fix Steven Gennna Suede Lace Up Flat in Blush - TheFebruaryFox.com Stitch Fix Steven Gennna Suede Lace Up Flat in Blush - TheFebruaryFox.comI begged for these. They’re a pink blush color, although they almost look khaki so they’ll go with a lot more items in my closet. I always worried about how comfortable lace-up shoes would be, but when I tried these on I found myself 1/2 hour later curling my hair, looking down and thinking “oops” when I realized they were still on.

Stitch Fix Alice Blue Kortnie Off The Shoulder Top - TheFebruaryFox.comStitch Fix Alice Blue Kortnie Off The Shoulder Top - TheFebruaryFox.com Stitch Fix Alice Blue Kortnie Off The Shoulder Top - TheFebruaryFox.comBefore I got this one I was not into it. The black in the shirt looked brown (it definitely photographs that way) and this kind of floral pattern reminds me of couch upholstery. However, this is the most comfortable off-the-shoulder shirt I have ever put on and, because of the black background, I could totally dress this one up and wear it into the fall. I’m torn.

Stitch Fix RD Style Skriver Tie Waist Top - TheFebruaryFox.comStitch Fix RD Style Skriver Tie Waist Top - TheFebruaryFox.comStitch Fix RD Style Skriver Tie Waist Top - TheFebruaryFox.comI admit, I peeked. If you have an iPhone and the Stitch Fix app you can see your items as soon as they’re marked shipped. I was dying to get my hands on this item. Because I don’t wear short sleeves, I freaking love anything that gives the appearance I’m wearing short sleeves but still cover the back of my arms. But, when I unwrapped the package this was the only item I was disappointed in. The material was stiff and gauzy, sheer, and it fit me like a paper bag. It took some fiddling with the shirt to make it look good, but I was on my way to an event and needed something to wear quick and gave into it. Surprisingly it was super comfy and didn’t take any finagling throughout the night. Obviously keeping since I wore it already 😉

Stitch Fix Pixley Wheeler Kimono - TheFebruaryFox.comStitch Fix Pixley Wheeler Kimono - TheFebruaryFox.comKimonos are my ultimate weakness because they are so easy to wear. It’s the perfect way for me to wear a strappy tank top under and feel cooled off in the heat. This pick is no different and I’ll be asking for a fancy white tank to wear under in my next fix. Also, I’m wearing some Liverpool skinnies I got in fix #3 – request these if you’re short like me. They have short sizes and they’re some of the only jeans I can find that work with my short legs (I’m 5’3 with an extra long torso).

Now, let’s talk price. Tallying up everything above we’re talking $373 pre-tax. My fixes usually aren’t that expensive, but I gave the green light to increase a bit this round since I asked for shoes that I consider a staple (which aren’t all that pricey). The good news: if I buy all 5 items I get 25% off! This means my whole fix with the discount and $20 styling fee credit comes out to $259.75 (again, pre-tax). Most of my fixes run around $200 for all 5 items.

I’ve found myself shedding old items from my closet like crazy after adding in items from Stitch Fix because they’re the only ones I grab for. I’m guilty as charged when it comes to buying cheap clothes that don’t last and look funky after the first wash, so I’m finally seeing that quality over quantity applies to more than just friendships 😉

Even though I love everything in this fix, I still want to get your opinion. Which items should I keep?

Update! I decided to keep all five items. Thanks for all your help.
